Info: Perennial herb, usually grown annually, with typical garlic aroma, but no aftertaste. Hardy. Leaf height 20 - 40 cm. The fresh, fleshy leaves are harvested. Sprouts again after cutting. Can be used like garlic, for soups, salads, meat and fish. Can be driven like chives on the windowsill.
Care: Sow in rows with 25 - 30 cm spacing, cover thinly with soil, press lightly and keep moist. Thin out strong seedlings to 20 cm spacing. Loves sunny to partially shaded locations on all humus-rich, preferably sandy-loamy soils.
Tip: The leaves can be preserved by freezing. In Asia, the flower stems and budded flowers are also eaten.
