Info: Biennial spice fennel with a spicy-sweet taste reminiscent of anise. Height 100 - 150 cm. Leaves fresh or dried for salads and sauces, ground seeds for pastries, compote, and pudding. Seeds brewed as tea, an old home remedy for stomach upsets and flatulence.

Care: Sow thinly, 1 - 2 cm deep in rows 40 cm apart, press lightly, cover with soil, and keep moist. Thin to 15 - 20 cm after sprouting. In the 2nd year, thin to about 40 cm apart. Prefers sheltered, warm, sunny locations on all garden soils. Winter protection in harsh locations.

Tip: Use pots for indoor cultivation; fennel is difficult to transplant due to the taproot.

Sowing: March - May in open field

Germination: 15 - 25 days at 16 - 22°C

Harvest: March - October in the 2nd year
