Info: Perennial. Perennial lupines are well-known appearances in the early summer garden and are very popular again. The stately flower spikes bloom together with peonies, irises, oriental poppies, and the first roses. Growth height: approx. 80 - 100 cm.

Care: Sowing is done outdoors on site or in pots with 2 - 3 seeds per planting spot about 2 - 3 cm deep (dark germinators). A sunny to partially shaded spot suits the plants well. They need a permeable, well-loosened soil. Plant spacing approx. 50x50 cm.

Usage: Lupines are striking magnificent perennials for borders, in front of hedges, and at the base of roses. In cottage gardens, their nostalgic character comes into its own. The strong stems make good cut flowers.

Gardener's tip: Cutting back immediately after flowering brings a second bloom in autumn. The seeds are sometimes very hard-shelled and can be difficult to germinate in dry weather. Soak them in lukewarm water for 24 hours before sowing immediately. Due to long taproots, lupines cannot be transplanted.

Sowing: April - September in cold frame or open field

Germination: 14 - 20 days at 15 - 20°C

Location: Sunny

Bloom: June – July
