Info: Annual. Gourds play a major role in tropical cultures. They also thrive in various regions and produce a variety of forms suitable for decorations and crafting. The mix contains club, amphora, snake-shaped, and bulbous forms. Climbing plant grows up to 3 m long.

Care: The pre-cultivation takes place in a warm environment (greenhouse/window sill), 2 - 3 seeds are sown per pot about 1 - 3 cm deep (dark germinators). Young plants can be planted outdoors from mid-May (frost-free), gradually acclimatize them to the outside temperatures (harden off). Direct sowing on site is possible from mid-May (frost-free). Plant spacing about 100x100 cm.

Usage: Ornamental gourds are excellent for autumn decoration of home and yard. In large wicker baskets and on a straw mat, ornamental gourds look particularly decorative. You can complement the autumn arrangements with ornamental cucumbers or Ethiopian nightshade.

Gardener's tip: The fruits must fully ripen to ensure long shelf life, so wait until the first frosts. Gourds harvested too early quickly mold and do not show the full color spectrum of the fruits. Not suitable for consumption!

Sowing: Pre-cultivation: March - April; Direct sowing: From mid-May

Germination: 10 - 14 days at 18°C soil temperature

Location: Sunny, loose, and permeable soil

Bloom: From September until frost
