Info: Annual. The saltwort or ice plant is a cushion-forming, uncomplicated, creeping, succulent plant with low nutrient and water requirements. Ideal for barren and dry locations, also for balcony and terrace in full sun. Saltwort has fleshy, light green leaves covered with water-storing glands that shine like small glass beads in the sun. Slightly salty taste. Growth height up to 10 cm.

Care: Pre-cultivate in pots from April to mid-May. Sow directly outdoors in pots from the end of May to June. Place several seeds in a pot. Do not cover with soil (light germinator). Keep constantly moist with a water sprayer. Use sterile sowing soil! Temperatures must be kept constant throughout the entire germination phase. From the end of May (frost-free) bring the young plants in group planting into the open ground (harden off gradually beforehand). Plant spacing 30 cm.

Usage: The leaves are served fresh in salads or mixed into salads as a salty component.

Gardening tip: The seeds are very fine! Avoid waterlogging!

Germination: 7 - 14 days at 15°C
