Info: Biennial. The German name of the imposing plant is derived from the spicy fragrance it emits. The ornamental, medicinal, and spice plant is particularly pretty when the white-pink flower spikes appear, suitable for herb and perennial beds. Growth height up to 110 cm.

Care: Pre-cultivate in pots from March to April. From the end of May to June, sow directly outdoors in bowls. Sow shallowly, cover seeds with 0.5 cm of sieved soil, press down. Keep constantly moist. Use sterile sowing soil! Temperatures must be kept constant throughout the entire germination phase. Once young plants are graspable, plant out at the end of May in their final location. Acclimate to outdoor temperatures beforehand. Planting distance 40x40 cm.

Usage: Flowers and leaves can be eaten fresh and cooked. The flowers are particularly used to flavor vermouth wines, jams, and desserts.

Gardener's tip: The medicinal effect of clary sage is comparable to real sage. The flowers attract insects. Clary Sage has a long, fleshy taproot and should not be transplanted or stand in stagnant moisture.

Sowing: Pre-cultivation: March - April; Outdoors: From the end of May - June

Germination: 7 - 14 days at 15°C

Location: Sunny, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil

Harvest: From June until frost; Young leaves and shoot tips
