Wild Rocket

Info: Perennial. Even more intense in flavor than salad rocket is wild rocket. The native wild herb was completely neglected for a long time, but it has now become a byword for delectable and rustic, tasty cuisine. The deeply notched leaves have an intense flavor of peanuts and cress. For the home garden, the yellow-flowering wild rocket is particularly interesting because, after a slow initial growth, the flat leaf rosettes develop into a perennial crop that can be harvested repeatedly for months. The plants are hardy and very robust. They can be sown all year round, both outdoors and in cold frames or greenhouses.

Care: Sowing depth about 0.5 - 1 cm. Wild rocket has no soil requirements. It thrives everywhere in any loosened garden soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Row spacing about 15 cm.

Use: Just a few leaves of the very aromatic wild rocket give dishes or other salads a special kick. Wild rocket is also popular for topping pizzas and as a seasoning herb in Italian cuisine.

Gardener tip: The leaves are cut 5 - 8 cm high, as with cut-and-come-again lettuce. They grow back from the center again and again.
