Info: Hubbard and Carotak pumpkin are other names for this unusual, trailing pumpkin that traveled from South America to Asia and is highly valued there. The drop-shaped fruits, weighing 1.5 - 3 kg, are conspicuously bright orange. The firm flesh is also deep orange, indicating the high carotene content, which is significantly higher than in carrots. This pumpkin is therefore very healthy and tastes like chestnuts (marrons) or nuts. The hard-shell fruits are decorative and long-lasting in winter storage.

Care: Optimal germination temperature is a constant 16 - 22°C. Germination time approx. 6 - 12 days. 2 - 3 seeds per spot. A sunny location, nutrient-rich soil, and wind protection are advantageous.

Use: "Red Kuri" is always a good companion to many dishes, whether pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, vegetable stews, pumpkin pancakes, with fish or with rice. The skin also contains many vitamins, which is why the pumpkin does not actually need to be peeled (the skin is cooked soft at the same time as the pumpkin).

Gardener's tip: Overripe, dried fruits make attractive decorative objects.

Sowing: Pre-culture: April - May in trays; Outdoor sowing: From May

Germination: 6 - 12 days at 16 - 22°C

Location: Sunny

Harvest: September - October
